NECROSOUND

What data does an element in transformation produce? What if this is a growing fungus?

NECROSOUND is an artistic project developed by a group of artists based on data collection from the transformation produced by the growth of a Fungi. Fungi are organisms without chlorophyll branched that are born in specific environments under specific parameters. By absorbing organic principles of the medium, they are reproduced asexually through spores, living on organic matter in decay or in the form of parasites on vegetables or animals. There are many types of fungi that develop specific tasks and that we use for our benefits, such asy east or the newly discovered plastic eating fungus. Based on this concept, the Necrosound project consists of two parts: In a first stage it is about collecting the maximum data produced by a specific fungus during its growth in a closed and sterile environment. With sensors of temperature, humidity, movement, pressure, microscopic camera and a raspberry, a biological transformation is converted into an online database, which is storing the information and updating in real time according to the modifications generated by the fungus. In a second stage it focuses on the specific interest of the research group formed by creatives, trying to generate an external response to the process. What artistic possibilities can the application of these data have to other external systems? How can we translate this process of composition/decomposition into an artistic piece? Once the data collection is working, these will be applied to different forms: image, sound and text. This project wants to investigate new creative approaches in which technology and data are a tool of artistic production.
